The Istanbul Studies Workshop aims to examine the cultural institutions in Istanbul from the Ottoman period to the Republic using primary sources. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Koç, the workshop will be held once a week on Saturdays, focusing on various contexts such as mysticism, education, culture, art, and social life. Participation in the online workshop requires a graduate education, and participants will be selected through an interview from among the applicants. These efforts and endeavors will culminate in a symposium and a book at the end of the workshop. The workshop will last a total of 8 weeks (February 6 - March 27), and participants are expected to attend the meetings regularly and engage actively during and after the meetings.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Koç

He was born in 1969 in Kayseri. He graduated from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at Istanbul University. He completed his master's and doctorate in the same department. He is currently working at Istinye University.

His works include Bâleybelen: Muhyî–i Gülşenî First Artificial Language, Aşçı Dede’s Memories I–IV (with Eyyüp Tanrıverdi), Persenk and Explanation of Persenk, Ahlâk-ı Alâî, Tahbîzü'l-Mathûn: Translation of El-Kânûn Fi't-Tıb (with Eyyüp Tanrıverdi), El-Okyanusu’l-Basit fi Tercemeti'l-Kamüsi'l-Muhit: Translation of Kamusu'l Muhit (with Eyyüp Tanrıverdi).

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Koç, who has studies on Ottoman Turkish, Istanbul Turkish, artificial languages, history of medicine, history of Istanbul, mysticism, and dictionary texts, is currently busy with turning his work on the unique archive of Cemalettin Server Revnakoğlu, known for his research on Istanbul's lodges and the history of sects, into a book.
