The 7th session of our program "The Language of Witnessing: Gaza and Literacy", titled Religious Literacy: Compassion, Justice, and Silence, was held at GİF Safveti Pasha Campus. Our esteemed academic, Professor Necdet Subaşı, participated in the seminar.

In this session, while discussing how religious discourses can be instrumentalized specifically in Gaza, the concepts of compassion, justice, and solidarity inherent in religion were comprehensively deliberated. It was emphasized that religious literacy is not only a field of knowledge in the face of the oppression and injustices experienced but also a moral responsibility and a conscientious stance.

Throughout the seminar, the reflexes of the Islamic world towards Gaza were evaluated within this conceptual framework; a deep thinking ground was established on the meaning of silence, discourse, and action. Participants had the opportunity to rethink both the transformative and responsibility-laden aspects of religious language.
