As the Turkey Youth and Education Service Foundation, we have launched a social responsibility campaign against the culture of violence and hatred that children and young people face, especially in the online environment.
Under the name of the ‘Online Bullying Awareness Campaign’, our social responsibility project carried out with the slogan ‘#StopBullying’ aims to reach children, families, and educators through social media platforms and to empower internet users of all ages to protect themselves against online dangers.
Bullying Traumatizes
The culture of anonymous (nameless) attacks that has entered our lives with the development of technology and the proliferation of social networks has a negative, damaging effect on many internet users, but it can especially lead to traumatic experiences for children and young people's self-esteem and social relationships.
Bullying, which means being subjected to negative behaviors intentionally, continuously, and unfairly by peers or strangers, is a type of violence that differs from ordinary disagreements and conflicts, and it is characterized by the need for detection and intervention by adults. Online bullying can be much quieter and more deeply applied than traditional types of bullying, such as physical and verbal bullying, making it harder to detect. At this point, having awareness and basic technology literacy is of vital importance.
A Call from Our President Fatmanur Altun
At the promotional event of the campaign, which invited experts from child development and social media, opinion leaders, and press members, our Board Chair Dr. Fatmanur Altun presented strong data on the prevalence and effects of online bullying in his speech, emphasizing that there is no hopeless picture regarding what can be done about bullying and that we need to evaluate the tools we have effectively and in a way that produces benefits. Altun invited participants to volunteer for the campaign to prevent online bullying and stressed the importance of encouraging internet users of all ages to use and share the tools provided within the campaign.
What the Awareness Campaign Offers
All tools and materials provided within the campaign have been made available at www.zorbaligiengelle.org. The website includes an informative guide specifically prepared for parents and educators, a comprehensive e-learning section where adults can increase and test their knowledge about bullying, and a chatbot that directs visitors to relevant content according to their needs, making it easy for users of all ages to use.
