As Türkiye Gençlik ve Eğitime Hizmet Vakfı (TÜRGEV), we held the introduction of our project titled "Chorus in 75 Days, Musical Modes and Meaning-Translation Memorization" in collaboration with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (IZU) at the Baglarbasi Congress and Culture Center.
As Türkiye Gençlik ve Eğitime Hizmet Vakfı (TÜRGEV), we held the introduction of our project titled "Memorization of Quranic Verses and Musical Modes in 75 Days" in collaboration with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (IZU) at the Bağlarbaşı Congress and Culture Center.
In 2013, following the speech made by our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the opening of TÜRGEV Hayriye Cemal Gülbaran Secondary Education Dormitory, we have developed our memorization studies, which have been ongoing for 10 years without interruption, with an innovative educational method.
With the method implemented by Gülsüm Arslan, a faculty member of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, individuals familiar with the Arabic language and the Quran quickly became memorizers by practicing with the choir and musical modes. The pilot application of the project started this summer at TÜRGEV Kartal Hayriye Cemal Gülbaran Secondary Education Dormitory with sixty participants and was successfully completed. Out of the memorization candidates who worked six days a week for eight hours a day, twenty-five successfully completed their memorization. During the ceremony attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Assoc. Prof. Dr. Safa Koçoğlu, Deputy President of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. İbrahim Hilmi Karslı, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevdet Acar, TÜRGEV Board Member Esra Albayrak, Istanbul Mufti Prof. Dr. Safi Arpaguş, and Project Consultant Prof. Dr. Özcan Hıdır, certificates were presented to the memorizers and all stakeholders of the project.
Our Board Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatmanur Altun emphasized the necessity of developing new educational methods that can respond to the needs of the era while drawing attention to the challenges and opportunities brought by the digital age. Altun stated that they observed that when memorization is done with musical modes in a choir format, it allows for much higher quality memorization in a shorter time, and noted that this is a remedy for today's issues of inability to focus and quick boredom. He highlighted that this is a turning point for our ongoing memorization studies and added that a decision has been made to continue the existing memorization studies in our dormitories using the same method.
